April 16 has been designated National Healthcare Decisions Day! (as part of a weeklong community education initiative) The National Healthcare Decisions Day Initiative is a collaborative effort of national, state and community organizations committed to ensuring that all adults with decision-making capacity in the United States have the information and opportunity to communicate and document their healthcare decisions. The objectives of NHDD are to provide much-needed information to the public, reduce the number of tragedies that occur when a person’s wishes are unknown, and improve the ability of healthcare facilities and providers to offer informed and thoughtful guidance about advance healthcare planning to their patients.
Hospice of the North Country, along with over 1,000 other national, state and community organizations, is proud to participate in NHDD, celebrated on April 16. Our goal is to encourage all of our employees to complete their own advance directive so that we may be better equipped to answer questions and assist patients in completing their advance directive. All are welcome to visit our offices located in Plattsburgh, 358 Tom Miller Road and in Malone, 3909 St. Rt. 11 on Tuesday, April 17 to learn about advance directives (Health Care Proxy). Please don’t forget that advance directive information is available at: https://www.nhdd.org/public-resources The theme for this year’s NHDD is “It always seems too early, until it’s too late.”
