Happy 100th Birthday!

Happy 100th Birthday to Victoria Titus! Today is a special day for a very special person in Ellenburg. We are pleased to send you our birthday wishes and thank you for being an inspiration to us all. Here is just a glimpse into Victoria’s life—it will make you wonder why her favorite saying is “Sitting is the best job I ever had”.  We are laughing right along with you! Originally from Churubusco, Victoria married Maurice Titus in 1939 and then for the next several years she worked on the family farm while raising four children. (today she has 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren) In 1970, Maurice passed away and it was at this time that Victoria decided to find work outside the farm; over the next several years she worked very hard to support her family. She began at Ballard Mill where she made hunting clothes and then she moved on to Alice Hyde Medical Center’s nutrition department.  At the young age of 70, Victoria began what was perhaps some of her most important work; she was the House Mother at the Burke Adult Center—at this time the Center offered housing for seniors. She continued to take care of people at the Center until she was 90 years old. She retired as House Mother and the senior housing closed upon her departure. Victoria wasn’t all work and no play; she was an avid quilter and enjoyed sewing and doing puzzles. According to her family, her longevity is due to many years of hard work and taking care of other people. Victoria may think her favorite job was sitting…but clearly she didn’t spend much time doing that. Happy Birthday Victoria from the Hospice of the North Country Family.
