AMANDA MITCHELL, LMSW
Social Worker/Bereavement Coordinator

Our mission is driven by the compassionate and dedicated professionals who serve our patients and their families during some of life’s most challenging moments. We are thrilled to introduce Amanda Mitchell, our Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW), Social Worker/Bereavement Coordinator. Amanda brings a wealth of knowledge, empathy, and unwavering commitment to her role, ensuring that every patient and family member receives the emotional and practical support they need.

WHAT IS YOUR ROLE AT HOSPICE OF THE NORTH COUNTRY?

I am a social worker and bereavement coordinator for Hospice of the North Country. In the role of a social worker, I provide support and resources to patients and their family members. I advocate for patients and family members when needed, research and connect people with community resources, and offer the patient the chance to share life stories. As a bereavement coordinator I offer emotional support to people who have lost someone and are grieving. This service is not only available to our hospice families, but also to the public.

WHAT ARE THE REWARDS OF YOUR JOB?

This job is rewarding because I get to meet new people and hear their stories. I get to engage in the sharing of memories that are important to them, and they enjoy discussing. I get to help members of our community from the comfort of their own home.

WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED AT HOSPICE?

Hospice is beneficial to the patient and the family members. I have found that family members sometimes need support just as much as the patient. Before working here, I didn’t know that so many services were provided to not only the patient, but their family as well. I didn’t know that co-workers could work together so effortlessly to provide whatever we can to people who need it.

HOW HAS HOSPICE CHANGED YOUR WORLD VIEW?

Hospice has changed my view of the world because I see people coming together, working together, and communicating so well with each other. I see the love and care that family members provide, and knowing how hard it is every day, they do it without hesitation. I see strength and resilience every day whether it be from my co-workers, patients, or family members and it is inspiring.
